As a child, Dora showed a penchant for theatrical skills, in particular, as a child she excelled in pantomime, first appeared on stage at the age of 12. During World War II, Dora joined the National Entertainment Service Association and performed for British soldiers fighting in Italy. In 1945, Dora returned to England and began playing roles in leading theaters in the West End. Playwright Noel Coward picked the stage name Dora Bryant for the young actress, which the girl adopted. However, due to a typo, the last letter T disappeared and the actress became known as Dora Brian.
