Born May 26, 1950, American journalist and writer of Armenian descent. Columnist for the Washington Post. Based on his novel "The Body of Lies", the eponymous dramatic action film directed by Ridley Scott was filmed.
In January 2009, there was a highly publicized incident at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where David Ignatius, moderating a discussion between Shimon Peres and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, interrupted an emotional speech by the Turkish Prime Minister, citing the need to comply with regulations. Erdogan responded by complaining that the Israeli president was given 25 minutes to speak, and he was given much less. The Turkish Prime Minister asked David Ignatius to let him speak again, for which he gave him one minute. Continuing to accuse Peres, Erdogan, in particular, said: “I am very sorry that people applauded your words today. Many people have died in Gaza. And I think that this is wrong and completely inhumane. " To this Ignatius said: “We cannot start the discussion again. We just don't have enough time. " Erdogan asked: “Please let me finish. " To which Ignatius said: "We really need people to have lunch." After these words, Erdogan stood up and said “Thank you very much. Thanks. Many thanks. I don’t think I will return to Davos after that ”, left the audience.
The incident took on a special piquancy after it turned out that the moderator of the discussion, David Ignatius, was an Armenian. He himself wrote about this in an article in the Washington Post on October 14, 2007: "I am an American Armenian, and some of my relatives died during the genocide."
