Rene Feret - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor, Director, Writer, Producer.
May 26, 1945, La Basse, Nord department, France - April 28, 2015, Paris - French film director and producer specializing in social cinema. Even before the birth of the future director, his 4-year-old older brother Rene dies, and the parents give the newborn the name of the deceased. At the age of 17, Rene decides to become an actor, but this dream was not destined to come true, with the exception of a few small roles in films. At the age of 22, Rene is experiencing psychological trauma - the death of his father. Shocked by her, Rene Feret makes an unsuccessful suicide attempt, as a result of which he spends some time in a psychiatric hospital. After leaving it, he abandons the dream of becoming an actor - reincarnation in the images of other people is too traumatic for his psyche. Instead, he decides to become a filmmaker.
Rene Feret's first film, The Story of a Field, was released in 1975, when the director is 30 years old. The film was made thanks to the small sponsorship of documentary filmmaker Nicolas Philibert and has both commercial success (it was watched by 50 thousand viewers) and quite positive reviews from critics - the philosopher Michel Foucault writes a very laudatory review for the film. Rene also received the Jean Vigo Prize for the painting. The first film is autobiographical - in it Rene talks about her story of being in an insane asylum. After the successful release of the first film, Rene Feret founds his own firm, which will produce his work. The director's second film, The Solemn Communion, released the following year, largely describes the author's story. The film was shot on a grand scale, with about 60 actors involved. The picture is included in the program of the Cannes Film Festival - thanks to such advertising it will be seen by half a million viewers. The success of "Solemn Communion" Feret will no longer be able to repeat, the next four films, released in the 1980s, are absolutely disastrous. In 1980, Fernand and The Royal Child were released, in which he narrated about his divorce from his wife, in 1985 - Alexina's Secret about the fate of the hermaphrodite, and in 1987 - the thriller The Man Who Wasn't There. Due to failures at the box office to pay off debts, the director even has to give up the copyright for these films.
Oddly enough, but it is this failure that allows Rene Feret to renew his work. He founds a small family business, where everything is subject to strict financial discipline: his wife Fabienne is engaged in the editing of films, and the roles are played by the children Julien, Marie and Lisa. However, this approach yields its results: although Rene does not manage to repeat the success of "Solemn Communion", subsequent films pay for themselves. The filmmaker strives for commercial success while maintaining complete creative independence. In the late 2000s - early 2010s, Feret shot 3 films on a historical theme: Mozart's Sister, Madame Solario and Anton Chekhov. The last film dedicated to the biography of the great Russian writer is released on March 18, 2015 - a little more than a month before the director's death. Rene Feret also published The Baptism in 1990.
