January 1, 1879 - May 8, 1952 - One of the pioneers of American cinematography, founded the Fox Film Corporation in 1915. In 1936, Fox sold his stake in the company to save it from bankruptcy, but his name lives on in the names of various media currently owned by Rupert Murdoch, most notably the Fox television network, Fox News Channel, 20th Century Fox. and 21st Century Fox.
