Born May 28, 1944, Atlanta, USA is an American soul singer and actress.

During the 1960s, Knight was the lead singer of the powerful Motown label. In 1973 she switched to another label, where she released her most successful hit - "Midnight Train to Georgia" (# 1 in the USA).

In 1985, together with Dionne Warwick, Elton John and Stevie Wonder, she recorded the charity single "That's What Friends Are For". In 1989 she performed the song "License to Kill" for the James Bond film of the same name.

Gladys Knight achieved widespread popularity, performing in the 1960s and 1970s as the vocalist of the group Gladys Knight & the Pips.

Winner of seven Grammy awards.
