Born December 1, 1946, New York, USA - American film actor, comedian and voice actor.

His father was an immigrant from Budapest (Hungary).

Originally a musician and songwriter, Katz was the leader of a rhythm and blues band called Katz and Jammers before becoming music director for Robin Williams on his 1979 stand-up comedy tour. In 1998, he released the Brandon Project blues album. And in 2007, Katz released a disc of performances as a comedian called Caffeinated.

Jonathan Katz was featured in the 2009 comedy biopic Turbocharge, the Unauthorized Story of the Cars about the '80s rock band The Cars.

Jonathan Katz is a close friend of famed playwright David Mamet, with whom they attended Goddard College. Katz wrote with Mamet the script for the film House of Games and played small roles in Mamet's films Everything changes, Homicide, The Spanish Prisoner and State and Main. Katz was the 1964 New York table tennis champion, he and Mamet often went from college to college to play table tennis, and Katz let Mamet beat him. Friends pretended to be playing for money, and then Mamet would tell people: "If you want to play with me, first beat my friend." Sometimes Katz gave his opponents 15 handicap points and promised to remember some painful experience of his youth for every point he lost.
