Jack Oakey - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, actor.
November 12, 1903 - January 23, 1978 - American actor and radio host. Born in Sedalia (Missouri) and spent his childhood in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Lewis started working as a teenager, as soon as his family moved to New York, he got a job as a courier on Wall Street, and almost died on September 16, 1920 during a terrorist attack on this street (Wall Street bombing). Soon he began to play in amateur theaters (then he took the pseudonym Jack Oakey), and in 1923 he performed for the first time on Broadway. Until 1927, he performed in various Broadway productions, and then moved to Hollywood with the firm intention to start acting in films. Indeed, in one year he starred in five silent films, and with the onset of the talkie era, he signed a contract with Paramount Pictures, which expired in 1934. After that, Jack decided to no longer burden himself with contracts and become a freelancer. He was not mistaken, he was in demand, and until the end of the 1940s he starred in 87 films. From 1936 to 1938 he hosted his own radio show.
Jack Oakey died on January 23, 1978 at his family estate, Oak Ridge, of an aortic aneurysm. Buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale.
