Born October 4, 1949, Cleveland, Ohio is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor.
Graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1972 with a degree in English.
His Trinity mentor was the poet Hugh Ogden.
Gyllenhaal's adaptation of Paris Trout, by Pete Dexter, was nominated for five Emmy Awards and won a DGA. Stephen Writes poetry, submits his work to poetry magazines for publication. Gyllenhaal has also directed several episodes of the CBS series Numb3rs, The Mentalist, Hawthorne, and others.
Gyllenhaal's television film Fight Girl, starring Anne Heche, received a DGA nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Film and Television.
