Raised in Washington DC, the son of Joseph Yardley Smith (May 10, 1931 - January 17, 2006), the first editor-in-chief of the Washington Post .
In the United States, she is known for her roles in the series Herman's Head, Dharma and Greg and many others. The Simpsons originally auditioned for the role of Bart, but Nancy Cartwright's voice was deemed more appropriate, while Smith was perfect for Lisa.
She suffered from bulimia for 25 years. It is noteworthy that in The Simpsons, in the Sleeping with the Enemy series and her heroine, Lisa, an eating disorder appeared.
She was married twice: from 1990 to 1992, to Canadian actor Christopher Grove, and from 2002 to 2008, to Daniel Erickson.
