Born August 14, 1952, Haarlem, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - Dutch actor, screenwriter, director and producer.
Alex van Warmerdam was one of the founders of the Hauser Orkater theater group, which later became the Hauser Orkater music and theater group. In 1980, Alex van Warmerdam, together with his brother Mark, founded the De Mexicaanse Hond (Mexican Dog) theater company. The theater has been performing with this name since 1989. Van Warmerdam directed his first film "Abel" in 1986, in which he played the main role. He also played in most of his other films, mostly in the lead roles.
He has been a screenwriter and actor in almost all of his films. He also plays roles in most of his films and, as a rule, the main characters. Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1996 Venice Film Festival.
