Dietzen began his acting career in Boulder, Colorado. He played in the plays Equus and Waiting for Godot and for two years was a participant in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. In the early 2000s, Brian moved to Los Angeles. Dietzen first appeared on the screen in 2003 in the film From Justin to Kelly, where he played with Kelly Clarkson. Then Brian got into the TV series My Guide to Becoming a Rockstar on The WB, in which he got the role of drummer. Dietzen later teamed up with John Riggy and Steve Rudnik on a show of two called The Oldest Man in Show Biz. And in 2004 he landed a role in the CBS TV series Marine Police: Special Department, where he played the assistant pathologist Jimmy Palmer. It was originally supposed to be a one-off guest role, but viewers and producers liked Jimmy Palmer so much that they decided to keep him as a recurring character. In 2012, in season 10 of the series, Dietzen got into the main cast of the show. In 2012, Brian starred in the film Congratulations.
