He has a sister, Monica, who lives and works in New Zealand. Ryan's father is German, his mother is English and Scottish by birth.
started his career at the age of ten. His aunt Heather was the first to discover his talent. First, he starred in commercials and booklets, played in a local amateur theater in his home state of Oklahoma, USA. Soon the filmmakers noticed him. So at the age of ten he went to Los Angeles for the casting of The Mommies, and got the role of Blake Kellogan for 2 years (from 1993 to 1995). At the same time, he landed a minor role on The Client. In 1999, he starred in At the Bottom of the Ocean, where he plays Michelle Pfeiffer's lost son. As Ryan says, "I had a good experience doing this movie."
