Tony Kushner is openly gay.
His parents are descendants of immigrants from Russia and Poland. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he spent his childhood in Kalkash Parish. In high school, Kushner was actively involved in political debate. In 1974, Kushner moved to New York to pursue higher education at Columbia University, from which he graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Studies.
Kouchner's most famous work is Angels in America.
In the early 2000s, Kushner began writing screenplays for films.
