In adolescence, he began to engage in oriental martial arts: wushu, judo, taekwondo. But most of all he was attracted by judo, and over time he became one of the most famous judoists in the country. He won a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Judo Championships in 1999 in Singapore, a silver medal at the Southeast Asian Games in 2007, and won a number of gold medals at the national judo championships. Taslim was a member of the Indonesian national judo team from 1997 to 2009, after which he suffered an injury that forced him to end his sports career.
In addition to professional sports, Joe Taslim has a successful career as a model and actor. In cinema since 2008. In 2010, he got a role in the film Reid, which was released in 2011 and received several awards.
