Born July 9, 1942 - American actor.
In 1971, he landed the lead role in the Blaxploitation film, Shaft. Following his commercial success, he starred in two of his sequels, Shaft's Big Win! (1972) and Shaft in Africa (1973), also in a short-lived series in 1973-74. Over the next few years, he starred in a number of disastrous films, and also appeared in "Earthquake" (1974). In 1977, Roundtree appeared in several episodes of the epic mini-series Roots as a slave.
In the 1980s, Roundtree's career was centered around critically acclaimed films and supporting television roles. In 1989 he moved to NBC's daytime soap opera Generations, where he filmed for the next two years. He also starred in the soap opera How the World Turns in 2002-03. In total, he has appeared in over seventy television shows during his career, including guest roles in LA Law, Touched by an Angel, Dr. Quinn, The Woman Doctor, Soul Food, Desperate Housewives. , Snooper, Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, The Mentalist, and Private Practice. In 2013, he began acting as the father of the main character in the TV series Being Mary Jane .
In 1993, Roundtree was diagnosed with a rare form of male breast cancer, after which he underwent two mastectomies and chemotherapy.
