Born June 29, 1930, New York, USA - American producer, actor and screenwriter. From 1967 to 1974, he was in charge of filmmaking at Paramount Pictures.

The son of a Harlem dentist, 26-year-old Robert Schapera was spotted by Norma Shearer by the pool in Beverly Hills and nominated for the role of her late husband, Irving Thalberg, in The Man with a Thousand Faces (1957). A year later, Darryl Zanuck insisted that Evans be given a role in the adaptation of Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, despite opposition from the writer himself. Evans' last notable acting was the 1959 melodrama The Best.

In 1966, Evans bought the rights to film the film The Detective by R. Thorpe. His successful work on the film adaptation of the novel (with Frank Sinatra) impressed the film industry, who fired the former leadership of Paramount Pictures at this time. Few known Evans got the chair of the director of filmmaking. Under his supervision, America's 9th largest studio has grown into Hollywood's most successful venture.

Over time, Evans secured an unprecedented permission from the studio owners to work as an independent producer as well. His first independent production work, Chinatown, reaped a bountiful harvest of film awards and was a great box office success.

In the second half of the decade, Evans' business acumen and productivity are weakening - not least because of drug problems. In 1980, Evans and his brother were found guilty of selling cocaine; to prove his remorse to the court, he even shot a TV commercial about the dangers of drugs. In 1983, a new scandal broke out - the contract murder of producer Roy Radin, with whom Evans worked on the film "The Cotton Club". Evans was among the suspects, but flatly refused to testify in this case.
