Born 1969, Jackson, Mississippi, USA - American writer.

As a child, she was friends with the future actor and director Tate Taylor. The father of Katherine and her brother Rob was Robert Stockett, a local hotel owner and general contractor. After their parents divorced, Katherine and her brother spent time in various places around the city, often living at the Coliseum Ramada Inn Fairgrounds, where their father worked and was a meeting place for local businessmen. This hotel was adjacent to the Stockett Stables, which preceded the hotel. Stockett Stables were a leisure spot for the young descendants of the Stocketts. Katherine's father, Robert Stockett, lost most of his business as a result of unprofitable deals at this time and invested a significant part of the money from the local business in property in Madison County, north of Jackson, to make up for the damage from the losses. Nevertheless, Rob and Katherine continued their studies at Jackson's most prestigious private white school (at the time).

Katherine graduated from the University of Alabama and has lived and worked for nine years in New York for the magazine publishing house since 2001.

Stokett's debut novel was The Servant. While the writer lived in New York, she worked for a magazine publishing house. It took her 5 years to finish a book that was rejected by 60 literary agents before Agent Susan Raimer agreed to represent Stokett. Since then, the novel has been published in three languages ??in 35 countries. In August 2011, the 5 millionth copy of the book was sold and it stayed 100 weeks in The New York Times Best Seller list.

The Servant novel became a bestseller a few months after its publication and as of August 2011 had 5 million copies sold.
