During his high school and high school years, Johns worked at the Rockville BMX store, where his colleagues nicknamed him "Spike Johns". Jonze was a photographer for Freestylin.
In 2006, he was nominated by the American Directors Guild for Excellence in Advertising 2005. He was a producer and co-creator of the MTV television series "Freaks" and the film "Freaks", and also directed some segments.
