Born January 9, 1956 in London - British theater, film and television actress.
Staunton attended La Sainte Union Convent School. Her talent was noticed by Jacqueline Stoker, her teacher. She soon starred as Polly Peach in the high school production of The Beggar's Opera. Then Staunton studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Worked at London National Theater, Oldwick Theater, Shakespeare Company. She starred in many films, the most notable roles in the films Peter's Friends, Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare in Love, Vera Drake, My Terrible Nanny, Psychic, David Copperfield and others.
In the Harry Potter films, she played the role of Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1)
