Koji Wakamatsu - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips.
Born April 1, 1936 (Wakuya, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan)) - October 17, 2012 (Tokyo, Japan)
Japanese director, screenwriter and producer.
Real name and surname - Takashi Ito.
He made his debut at the famous Nikkatsu studio in the early sixties, having removed twenty operational films in a couple of years, and became a master of a special Japanese erotic genre, “kick aega”.
His first independent film "The Secret Hunt of the Embryo" was shot in 1966 with virtually no budget. There was indeed a lot of cruelty in the Wakamatsu tapes, even by Japanese standards. That there are only the names of his tapes, which sound like poetry: "Angels of Ecstasy", "Serial Rapist", "Furious Torture", "Demon of Retribution". He was the founder of the Japanese school of genre cinema.
Among the most famous films of Wakamatsu in recent times - "The Red Army" (2007), devoted to the history of radical left movements in Japan, in his large-scale project, the director rethought the pain points of Japanese history of the twentieth century. The films "The Caterpillar" (2010) had a wide resonance - about a soldier who returned from World War II, who was left without arms, legs and mind, which does not prevent him from bullying his wife and "Mishima. The Final Chapter" (2012) about a conservative writer, who committed suicide out of hatred for the burst of revolutionary sentiments among young people.
He shot 105 films, was twice nominated for the main award of the Berlin Film Festival "Golden Bear" for the films "Secret Action Behind the Walls" (1965) and "Worm" (2010). He was the producer of Nagisa Oshima's replacement film "Empire of the Senses".
Died on October 17 at the age of 76 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
