Born February 24, 1927 in Lorraine, a region in northeastern France. The parents of the future actress wanted to see her as a seamstress, but despite their desire, in 1953 she arrived in Paris and entered the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, changing her name to Emmanuelle. In the late 1950s, she received various roles in the theater, and from 1957 in the cinema. In 1959, the movie "Hiroshima, my love" was released, where Riva played one of the leading roles.
