During her school years, the girl was an excellent student and head of the class. After graduating from secondary school, the actress went to London, where she soon applied to several theater universities at once. However, surprisingly, she could not enter any one.
Jenna's first role, which brought her fame in the UK, was the role of Jasmine Thomas in the soap opera "Emmerdale", which she performed from 2005 to 2009. For this role, she was nominated for the British Soap Awards for Best Debut and for the National Television Awards for Most Popular Newcomer in 2006. She was nominated for Best Actress, Sexiest Actress and Best Performance in a Drama Series at the 2009 British Soap Awards, and the TV Choice Awards for Best Actress.

In 2011, Jenna made her debut on the big screen. She appeared as Connie in the film Captain America: The First Avenger. In the same year, she played Annie Desmond in the four-part TV series Titanic and voiced the character Melia in the English localization of the Xenoblade Chronicles video game.
At a press conference on March 21, 2012, Steven Moffat, executive producer of the British sci-fi television series Doctor Who, announced that Jenna-Louise Coleman had been cast as the new companion of the Eleventh Doctor. She replaced Karen Gillan and Arthur Darville, who left the show in Episode 5 of Season 7, and took up the role of companion in the 2012 Christmas issue, but her first appearance was in Episode 1 of Season 7, The Dalek Isolator. Jenna went on to play the role in the eighth season with the new Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. At the end of 2014, it became known that Coleman would remain for the entire ninth season.
On September 18, 2015 the official website of the series confirmed that the ninth season of Doctor Who will be the last for the actress as Clara Oswald. The next project for her was the role of the young Queen Victoria in the new historical drama of the ITV channel.
