March 12, 1922 - October 21, 1969 - American writer, poet, the most important representative of the "beat generation" literature. Enjoyed reading success, but not spoiled by critical attention during his lifetime, Kerouac is today considered one of the most significant American writers. His spontaneous confessional language inspired such authors as Tom Robbins, Richard Brautigan, Hunter Thompson, Ken Kesey, William Gibson, Bob Dylan, he was called "the king of the beatniks".
