She was born on January 15, 1946 in Leningrad. In the period 1964 to 1968 she studied at the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, where she actively participated in an amateur theater, earned money at the Soyuzpushnina auctions and was the "face" of this Soviet trust. From 1965 to 1968 she worked in the apparatus of the Leningrad Committee of the Komsomol. In 1968 she entered the Moscow Art Theater School, after which in 1972 she was admitted to the Moscow Art Theater troupe. After the division of the Moscow Art Theater in 1987 into two groups - in the Moscow Art Theater named after Chekhov. In 1990, by decision of Oleg Efremov, she was appointed head of the troupe. She worked in this position until 2001. Then she took up screenwriting and writing.
