Born January 6, 1955, Consett, Durham, England, UK - British actor, screenwriter, producer and director.

The future actor studied at the Chorister Preparatory School at Durham Cathedral with the future British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Blair was 13 when Atkinson was transferred to his school at the age of 11. Then Rowan graduated from St. Bis School in Cumbria. Graduated from Newcastle University in 1975, where he studied electrical engineering. He received his master's degree in electrical engineering from the Oxford Queens College (since 2006 an honorary member of this college).

Atkinson's career as an actor began in 1978, when Rowan became the host, screenwriter, and main actor on The Atkinson People radio show.

In 1990, the television series "Mr. Bean" started showing, after the leading role in which Atkinson became famous throughout the world.
