In 1936-1941 he studied at the music school and music college named after. The Gnesins in Moscow with O. Gnesina (piano), E. O. Messner and F. E. Vitachek (composition). In 1945, Eduard Kolmanovsky graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, class of composition with V. Ya. Shebalin.
In 1947-1952, he was the executive editor of the music broadcasting of the All-Union Radio.
