Tara Fitzgerald was born in 1967 in the English city of Cuckfield. The girl was brought up in a creative family: her mother worked as a photographer, her father as an artist. When Tara was three years old, her parents divorced. A few years later, her mother married for the second time to actor Norman Rodway. The family moved quite often, so in her early years Fitzgerald managed to change several educational institutions.
After graduating from high school, she became a student at Richmond College, which she never graduated from. Tara tried to enroll in a couple of theater academies but failed. For the next two years she worked as a waitress. Finally, luck smiled at the girl - she was taken to the London Drama Center, where she completed her studies in 1990. Fitzgerald made her film debut a year later; she performed a small role in the film Hear My Song. Since 1991, she also began to cooperate with the BBC TV channel. Real fame came to the actress in 1994, after the film with Tara Fitzgerald Sirens was released. She portrayed Estella Campion, the priest's wife, so well that she was nominated for an AFI Award. In 1995, she performed the role of Ophelia in the production of Hamlet, for which she received the Drama Desk Award.
