Mary Kay Place was born on September 23, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the family of Gwendoline and Bradley Place. Place has English, Swedish, Polish, Scottish, Welsh, Dutch and German roots. Mary graduated from the University of Tulsa, where her father was a professor, and was a member of one of the oldest women's student societies, Kappa Alpha Beta. After receiving her education, Place moved to Los Angeles, cherishing the dream of becoming an actress and screenwriter. Mary's first job was as an assistant on the Tim Conway television comedy show.
Her first work as an actress was in the comedy television novel All in the Family, and Mary made her big screen debut in 1976 in the drama On the Road to Fame.
