Even as a child, instead of going to school, little Nino arranged theatrical performances at home. After graduating from the Faculty of Law, he entered the Academy of Dramatic Art (Accademia d'Arte Drammatica). He made his theater debut in 1947 at the Prague Festival of Youth and Students in Solim's anti-war play "The Man and the Gun". He worked in the theater "Piccolo di Milano" with Vittorio Gassman and Tino Buazzelli, played mainly dramatic roles. He has appeared in comedy roles on radio, TV and stage.
Nino Manfredi has played over 100 roles with directors such as Dino Risi, Damiano Damiani, Antonio Pietrangeelli, Luigi Comencini, Lina Wertmuller, Ettore Scola.
The funeral of Nino Manfredi was attended by the wife of the President of the Republic, Frank Ciampi. Many famous politicians and cultural figures of Italy came to pay their last debt to Manfredi. A screen was installed next to the actor's coffin, which showed excerpts from more than 100 films in which Manfredi starred, and videos from the home archive. There were few flowers at the funeral. The actor's family appealed to everyone who wanted to pay their last respects to the departed idol, with a request not to spend money on wreaths and bouquets, but to transfer them to the account of the Awakening charity, which supports seriously ill people who have suffered a stroke. Manfredi himself, who suffered from this ailment, spent the last months of his life in the hospital, grievingly experiencing his helplessness.
