On January 8, 1910, Galina Ulanova was born into a creative theatrical family of Leningrad. The father of the future legendary ballerina and actress was the director of ballet performances at the Mariinsky Theater, mother Maria worked as a teacher at the ballet school. Since childhood, little Galya did not show much interest in the theater, she wanted to become a sailor, but her parents insisted, and at the age of 9 she was admitted to the Petrograd School of Choreography. The girl didn’t like dancing, she didn’t like being constantly cold in the cold halls, she demanded to be taken from the school, but her mother Maria practically forced her to stay. Galina Sergeevna did not know then that dancing would become the meaning of her life.
After graduating from college, the young ballerina was immediately admitted to the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater in 1928. Galina performed her first main role of Odette — Odile in Swan Lake perfectly, after which she received the nickname "ordinary goddess" from Alexei Tolstoy.
And then it started spinning. Each role of the legendary ballet dancer has caused incredible success. She was given a standing ovation in Paris, Vienna, Tokyo, Rome, New York, her every dance was called "music in motion." It became an entire era in the world of ballet, deservedly receiving a huge number of awards, including the Stalin Prizes of the first degree in different years. Galina Sergeevna was twice the Hero of Socialist Labor, People's and Honored Artist of the USSR.
In 1944 the artist began performing at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, and only in 1962 stopped her brilliant career. Ulanova managed to prove herself in Soviet cinema. Films with Galina Ulanova's participation also deserved special attention, one of them, Romeo and Juliet, was awarded prizes at the International Film Festival in Cannes, in 1955. There were several documentaries, where Galina Ulanova played the main roles brilliantly.
The legendary ballerina and actress died on March 21, 1988. In the last months of her life, she destroyed almost all information about her personal life, but it is known that she had three spouses - all creative personalities.
