Katie has shot seventeen feature films. She is widely recognized in the film industry for opening up new directors and screenwriters to the world, as well as for her choice of material - both artistically progressive and commercially viable. Conrad and her partner, writer and director James Mangold recently completed work on 3:10 to Yuma (for Lionsgate), a new take on a classic western in which a small rancher (played by Christian Bale) agrees to help escort a captured criminal ( Russell Crowe) before boarding the train to take him to the Federal Court of Yuma; as a result, the rancher and the criminal come face to face in a battle of characters that turns into a deadly battle. In the critically acclaimed film Walk the Line, Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon portrayed the legendary pair of musicians Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Both actors performed their own vocals for the film and brought home a Golden Globe that honored their roles, and the film also received a Golden Globe for Best Feature Film - Musical or Comedy. The film had five Oscar nominations, and Witherspoon received it for Best Actress. The project has been in the works for a long time (Mangold and Konrad started working on it ten years ago) and was developed with the help and assistance of John and June Carter Cash until their death in 2003
Conrad and Mangold have several other big-budget projects at the Tree Line, including Mute Witness, a remake of the British independent thriller being filmed at Spyglass. Other recent projects include Anne Heche's Men in Trees for ABC, which premiered in the fall of 2006. The series was produced by Mangold and Katie Konrad's production company Tree Line Films.
