Director, screenwriter, actor.
In 1960 he entered the directing department of VGIK (workshop of M. Romm), from 1966 to 1974 served his sentence, in 1977 graduated from VGIK (workshop of A. Stolper) .
From 1977 he worked at the Lenfilm cinema. Currently he lives in France, America and St. Petersburg. The author of scripts for his films. In 1998, a retrospective of the director's films was held within the framework of the International Film Festival of European Cinema in Viareggio (Italy).
