Born on September 8, 1954, Pascal Greggory comes from a bourgeois Protestant background. Such an origin, as a rule, favors an early introduction to the world of art - already from the age of 12, Pascal sings in the choir on the stage of the Paris Opera (Tosca and Carmen) and plays "children's roles" in the theater. But he did not have a chance to finish his education in a dignified way - having failed the bachelor's exams, he attends the acting courses of Perimony for a year and continues to take on occasional roles in Parisian theaters, which helps to acquire many useful professional acquaintances.
However, in 1973, Pascal also successfully failed the exams at the Conservatory of Dramatic Art, but the head of the course - the famous theater director Antoine Vitez - allows him to study as a free listener. The studies are relatively successful, and Greggory gets his first film roles in the commercial "Doctor Francoise Guyane" by Jean-Louis Bertuchelli, it is unknown how even leaked into the Soviet distribution, and "Madame Claude" by the main French erotomaniac Just Jakin.
After the experimental "Flame" of Adolfo Arrieta, in 1979 Andre Teshinet takes him into his adventure called "The Bronte Sisters", after which Pascal, who has reached a certain and flattering fame, decides to join the rather specific author's world of cinematography by Eric Romer - he appears in three films of the director not counting the two trinkets of Pauline on the Beach partner Ariel Dombale. It was quite logical for himself to consider and emphasize in the unformed actor, first of all, the "reflexive clever man", which did not quite fit with the "physics" of the actor - the roles of the weak-willed lugs were obviously "not his".
And in the mid-80s, Pascal began to "slide" quite noticeably - having almost completely left the stage, he was content with unpretentious film roles (in order to simply "feed"), but he became a regular at numerous Parisian techno parties and near-world hangouts. This lifestyle and the almost complete absence of "specialty work" eventually led Pascal to the psychoanalyst's office, but one evening in 1987 the famous theater director Patrice Chereau sat down with Pascal in a restaurant, and this meeting radically changed the whole course of his acting biographies and life in general: Greggory, in his own words, finally met "the father he was always looking for." Shero was just preparing the production of Hamlet, but he did not even think about working with Pascal, kindly and to the point, calling the actor a complete amateur and lazy. Greggory, however, was not offended, but drew conclusions and began to work on himself - professionally and physically. Hangouts and techno are forgotten - now he "sways" in the gym for 4 hours a day, and the rest of the time he masters the insane style of the director in theatrical productions of plays by Coltes and Chekhov.
Unobtrusively "rolling" the new Greggory in "Time and Bedroom", Shero shows him to the world in his fiercely bloody "Queen Margot" - Pascal is first nominated for Cesar, and an amazing transformation opens up brilliant prospects for him. Now his main trump cards are masculinity and "strong feelings", the theater occupies a dominant place, and the passing film roles practically disappear. Of course, there is also an obvious, albeit a win-win commerce - hence the frankly "muscular" action movie "Wasp's Nest" or the infantile stupid "Jeanne Dark" from the French American Besson, but in other positions of impressive filmography - the most selected authors and festival favorites. Five collaborations with Patrice Chereau, two with Laurent Bunik, other critically acclaimed authors include Raoul Ruiz, Andrzej ulawski, and Jacques Doyon.
In an interview in 1998, Pascal admitted that he dreams of becoming one of the faces in cinema who are remembered as a symbol of the era. The actor has long since achieved his goal - having seen him on the screen once, this face and voice, with all the desire, cannot be forgotten.
