Dmitry Prigov was born in 1940. The family lived in Moscow, my father worked as an engineer, mother - a musician (played the piano). After graduating from school, Dmitry got a job as a locksmith. In 1959 he entered the art academy named after S. G. Stroganov at the sculpture department.

Works as a sculptor, writes poetry in parallel. He knew many representatives of Moscow art. Among his friends are poet, publicist L. Rubinstein, artist, photographer F. Infante. In 1980, some of his poems were published in the collection "Catalog".

The last film with Dmitry Prigov on Shosse Entuziastov (directed by Normunds Latsis) was released in 2002.

Dmitry was married to the artist Natalia Mali. Their son Andrey continues the activities of his parents and works in the field of art.

In the summer of 2007, Dmitry was admitted to intensive care with a diagnosis of heart attack. After several operations, Dmitry's heart continues to beat, but Prigov was never destined to recover. On the night from Sunday to Monday, July 16, Dmitry Aleksandrovich Prigov dies in the Moscow Department of Cardiology.

For his active creative life Dmitry was awarded the Pushkin Prize in 1993, and in 2002 he received the Boris Pasternak Prize in the category "Artist in Style".

Talking about his author's views, Dmitry said: "I'm worried about not just words, but some fundamental components ... I work with the images of the nineteenth century in the modern popular mind."
