Composer, co-author of some works by Andrey Petrov.
Born October 16, 1956. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2008) .
In 1979 she graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in the composition class of Professor B.I. Tishchenko. Already in the second year of the Conservatory she wrote the chamber cantata "The Source", from the appearance of which Olga Petrova's composing maturity began. She works in different genres - music for theater (mainly for children - the operas "The Elephant Horton Waits for a Chick", "Winnie the Pooh", "The Navel"; the ballet "The Ugly Duckling"). Written to the libretto by O. Tsekhnovitser, they have a fortunate destiny - both as a performing artist and in publishing. And "Winnie the Pooh" (1982), staged in six different opera houses, is still successfully performed in one of the best Russian children's musical theaters "Zazerkalye" .
Petrova also writes large orchestral canvases: 3 symphonies, concerts for instruments and orchestra. Nevertheless, according to the author himself, she nevertheless gravitates towards vocal music, but uses various possibilities of the voice: both in its solo version (vocal cycles "Russian Songs", "Lullabies"), and in conjunction with an instrumental ensemble, and sometimes even an orchestra (chamber cantatas "My Window" and "It is good to walk in the sky, reading Aronzon aloud", the grand miniature "Sweet peas", the poem "The fauna is playing in the flora"). The addiction to vocals also influenced the uniqueness of the symphonies: two of them (1985 and 1989) were written for the vocal and orchestral composition (lead voice, chorus and orchestra). Petrova refers to the texts of various poets - A. Akhmatova, O. Mandelstam, Y. Volkov and T. Wilder. Among the works of O. Petrova, children's music occupies a special place: instrumental ensembles, music for puppet shows. O. Petrova is a regular participant of the international children's festival "Composers of Russia for Children", which is annually held by the Union of Composers of Russia.
Having inherited from her father, the maestro of Russian musical cinema, the gift of a playwright, Olga Petrova is also actively working in the genre of film music. She wrote music for 8 films and 2 television series (together with A. Petrov) - "Petersburg secrets" and "Salome". A long-term creative collaboration connects Petrova with the famous Norwegian director K.E. Jensen. She is also the author of music for 17 drama and television performances, musicals - "The Caliph-Stork", "The Captain's Daughter" (together with A. Petrov on the libretto by A. Aronheim in English). "The Captain's Daughter" is to be delivered in October 2002 in Boston (USA) .
Performances with music by O. Petrova have long been successfully staged in theaters of St. Petersburg (Musical Comedy Theater, Lensovet Theater, Puppet Theater) .
O. Petrova's compositions are performed not only in the programs of concerts and international festivals in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Perm, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod), but also abroad (USA, Germany, Hungary, Canada, Poland, Lithuania, Finland , Norway, neighboring countries).
