Natalia Gebdovskaya is one of the oldest and most respected actresses in Ukrainian cinema. Her mother came to China at the beginning of the twentieth century to earn at least some dowry for her daughter. She was a laborer and could not hope for much in life. In the city of Harbin, she met a serviceman, from their union, and Natalia was born.
A year after the birth of their daughter, the young parents returned to their homeland to build a family nest. They themselves were very fond of theatrical art, constantly participated in performances on the amateur stage. Natalia went to rehearsals with them, and having matured, she decided for herself that she would follow in their footsteps. The chance was not long in coming. At the Kiev Film Studio in the late twenties, film production began. And young Natalia Gebdovskaya appeared in the mass scene of Dzhalma's painting. This is one of the first full-length Ukrainian films. Alexander Dovzhenko noticed the young talent. Without hesitation, he invited Natalia to his painting called Ivan.
Natalia Gebdovskaya received theatrical education only in the mid-thirties, after graduating from the Kiev State Institute. Before the start of the war, she got a job at the Donetsk Theater of Young Spectators. She also lost her husband there. To forget the loss, Natalia returns to Kiev, where she is gladly accepted into the troupe of the Ivan Franko Kiev State Theater. The Ukrainian Theater Society chooses its chairman. If you count all the films with Natalia Gebdovskaya's participation, then about fifty are released. This is not taking into account theatrical work, participation in radio performances and on television.
