Ivan Barnev was born in the Bulgarian city of Dobrich in 1973, but spent most of his childhood and youth in Varna. The parents wanted to give their son a good education, sending the boy to study at a prestigious gymnasium with an in-depth mathematical bias. However, Ivan did not make friends with the exact sciences, preferring, after graduating from high school, the Academy of Cinema and the Safarov Theater.
Having become a professional actor, for a long time Barnev has been playing in live productions, and in 1998 he made his debut on the big screen in the short film Dvama mazhe izvan grada by Lyudmila Todorova. The first full-length film with Ivan Barnev appeared in 2001, when the actor played a cameo role in the fantastic thriller Shark Hunter by Matt Codd.
But soon they will start offering him leading roles, for example, in such films as the drama of Georgy Dyulgerov Lady Zee (2005) or the war drama of Jiri Menzel I served the English king (2006). In his homeland, Ivan became a real star, taking part in the filming of the picture Night and Day (2006), the comedy Goat (2009), the romantic story Footprints in the Sand (2010), and the drama The Lesson (2014). A special point should be noted the work of Ivan in the action-adventure film Keda (2011), which was awarded the prize of the special authorized jury of the Moscow International Film Festival.
The artist also played in American productions: for example, one of the brightest Hollywood movies with Ivan Barnev was called Train and was released in 2008 thanks to the excellent director and screenwriter Gideon Raff. It was the author's story of students trapped in a dizzying bind of truly horrific events, where, in addition to Barnev, Thora Birch, Gideon Emery and Kevan Rees also took part.
