Mark Twain, a well-known journalist and writer of the nineteenth century, was born in the fall of 1835 in America, Missouri. The Clemens family (the real name of the writer) had four children (one of them is Samuel Clemens - aka Mark Twain). After the death of his father, Sam's elder brother, in order to somehow feed his family, became the founder of a print publication, where the future prose writer worked for the good of society, occasionally publishing in his brother's newspaper as an author.

Soon Clemens gave up writing and went as a pilot on a private steamer. According to Sam, it was the best job in his entire life. Sailing on the waters of the Mississippi, he quenched his thirst for travel and gained experience in order to later acquire his own ship. But at the age of 26, the guy was forced to leave his favorite job - the reason for this was the outbreak of the civil war in the United States.

So, in 1861, together with his brother Sam Clemens travels to Virginia in order to earn money by mining silver. Samuel quickly got tired of the prospector's profession, and he got a job as a journalist in a local newspaper, where his articles first appeared under the signature "Mark Twain." Three years later, Twain left for San Francisco, where he was published in several publications at the same time. And in 1865, one of the literary newspapers published a humorous story by Mark Twain ? "The famous jumping frog from Calaveras", which brought him well-deserved recognition from critics and readers.

Twain managed to visit Africa, Asia, Australia, England, Europe, he also visited the Crimea and Odessa. In 1870, Mark Twain proposed to his beloved Olivia Langdon, and after marriage, he and his wife moved to one of the small towns of New York. Twain continues to write a lot, lectures at universities in England and America. It is impossible not to mention the role of Mark Twain in the cultural life of society. After acquiring a publishing company, the writer patronizes many young talents, helping them to achieve success in the literary field.

Twain has written over 30 different works throughout his writing career. The prose writer is widely regarded as one of the finest authors in the history of classical American literature.

The following novels and stories of the writer became the most popular: the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (published in 1876), the historical novel The Prince and the Pauper (published in 1881), the second part of the acclaimed adventure novel about Sawyer's adventures - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn ( was published in 1884), a fantastic novel by a Yankee from Connecticut at the court of King Arthur (a creation in which such a phenomenon as travel in time and space was first described in detail, the novel was published in 1889).

Not long before his death, Mark Twain lost his wife and three children. After the untimely death of loved ones, the writer fell into depression, and Twain's publishing business gradually began to fall apart. And in the spring of 1910, one of the best American prose writers was gone. Mark Twain died of heart disease.
