Nikolai Khmelev is a terrific actor of the Soviet Union who also proved to be a talented director and teacher. He was three times a laureate of the Stalin Prize of the first degree. The actor was born in the Nizhny Novgorod province in Sormovo, grew up in a simple working-class family. I went to study at the Sormovskoe school. N. Subbotina, then moved to the second Nizhny Novgorod gymnasium. A couple of years later, he moved with his family to Moscow. The actor has successfully passed the exams at Moscow University. But the more significant work of the actor was the role of Prince Karlstein in the amazing film The Salamander in 1928. In 1932 Nikolai Khmelev organized his own theater studio. A few years later, he merged with another studio, and the name changed to the Moscow Theater. Ermolova. The actor became its chief director. In 1943, he began to work in parallel as artistic director at the Moscow Art Theater.
