Born on July 14, 1929 in Leningrad into an acting family.
As a child, his mother, actress Varvara Soshalskaya (1907-1992), often took her son with her on tour, thanks to which the theater entered his life forever.
In 1948 he graduated from the drama school at the Leningrad Youth Theater. The diploma performance was "Guilty Without Guilt" based on the play by A.N. Ostrovsky, and the role of Neznamov to this day remains Soshalsky's favorite. The next three years he played in the Leningrad Youth Theater, his debut was the role of Romeo in Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" .
