Born on February 15, 1972 in Omsk, in the homeland of his mother.
His father is artist Valery Makarov, for whom his mother, actress Lyubov Polishchuk, married at the age of 17 and with whom she broke up when her son was only four years old.
He studied at boarding school # 16, not far from the VDNKh metro station, and then, at the insistence of his stepfather, transferred to a regular Moscow school.
After graduation, he applied to GITIS, but the first attempt was unsuccessful. He worked as a night firefighter, distributed tickets at the Bat cabaret, and even was a loader at a vegetable base.

He made his film debut in 1999 with the main role of Ilya in the thriller by Boris Giller and Alexander Borodyansky "Check". In the same year he starred in the drama by Stanislav Govorukhin "Voroshilovsky shooter".
