February 28, 1969 - September 19, 2014 - Indian musician, master of playing the mandolin.
In addition to him, the family had two more daughters and a son, Rajesh, who also later began to play the mandolin. His father, U. Satyanarayana, was a clarinetist in a band recording music for films. At the age of six, Srinivas began playing the mandolin, which was found among his father's instruments. The boy studied music first under the guidance of his father and then his guru Rudraraja Subbaraja. Since Subbaraja did not know how to play the mandolin, their lessons boiled down to the fact that the teacher sang and the student picked up the melody. The first public performance of U. Srinivas took place in 1978 in Gudiwad, Andhra Pradesh, during the Thyagaraja Aradhana festival. In 1981, he performed for the first time in Madras, the capital of Tamil Nadu for the Indian Fine Arts Society, and has since played in every December Society festival for over three decades. His performance at the JazzFest Berlin in 1983 was a great success with the audience. At the age of 14, he had already toured with his concerts in Canada and Australia. In 1995, Shrinivas recorded a collaborative fusion album Dream with Canadian guitarist Michael Brook. In 1999 he joined the Remember Shakti quintet, formed by such musicians as John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan and V. Selvaganesh, with whom he toured all over the world, including Russia.
