Grew up in Evanston and Jollet, Illinois. He spent a lot of time at his father's ranch; from a young age he dreamed of becoming a veterinarian.
From the age of 16, in order to overcome natural shyness, he began to try himself on the amateur stage. In 1962 he moved to California, began acting in commercials.
He made his screen debut in the television series "I Dream of Jeannie" (1965, episode "Russian Roulette").
A real breakthrough in her acting career - the main role in the film adaptation of Sidney Sheldon's novel "The Other Side of Midnight" (1977). The film was a great box office success.
Confirmed his popularity in the television series Dallas (1983-1984, 1986), in which he played Mark Grayson, Pamela's husband.
