Malin Ackerman was born in Stockholm. Her mother Pia was a model, her father Magnus was an insurance broker. When Malin was two years old, the family moved to Toronto, Canada. After the parents divorced, Malin's father returned to Sweden, while the mother and daughter remained in Canada.
After leaving school, Malin studied at York University. At the age of 17, she was selected by the Ford Models modeling agency and worked as a model for several years. Then, after moving to California, she began her career as an actress.
On June 20, 2007 she married the Italian musician Roberto Zincone (Italian Roberto Zincone).
