Zhanna Trofimovna Prokhorenko (real name Zhanetta) was born in May 1940 in the city of Poltava. Jeanne's father was killed at the front, and he and his mother were evacuated to Leningrad. There she began to take acting lessons. By a happy coincidence, Zhanna Prokhorenko entered the Moscow Art Theater, and just a year after meeting with the film director Grigory Chukhrai, she woke up famous. She was cast in the lead female role in one of the most famous war films - The Ballad of a Soldier. The film won the Cannes Film Festival and was an overwhelming success at home. Together with Vladimir Ivashov, they were the first Soviet actors to visit the United States at a festival in the city of San Francisco.
The second film with Zhanna Prokhorenko - And if it's love? deprived the actress of a place in the Moscow Art Theater, but opened the way to VGIK, where a whole galaxy of talented actors (Bolotova, Gubenko, Nikonenko, Polskikh) studied together with her. There she met the future film director Gennady Vasiliev, who soon became her husband.
