Grigory Pluzhnik was born in 1909 in Ukraine. He is a well-known theatrical actor who played mainly in Ukrainian theaters. He started out as a tractor driver and served in the Far East. He got into the cinema in 1936 and immediately played the main role of goalkeeper Anton Kandidov in the film Goalkeeper directed by Semyon Timoshenko. The script for this film was written by the Soviet writer Lev Kassil, and the music by the famous composer Isaac Dunaevsky. This role made the young Pluzhnik truly famous in the USSR.
