Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1980) .
He graduated from a factory school, worked as an assembler at a shipyard, as a literary worker in various newspapers, then entered the scriptwriting department of VGIK, which he graduated in 1967. The first scenario realized was "Earth without God" (1963, TV). In the cinema, Chernykh made his debut with a script for the film "Man in His Place" (1972, directed by A. Sakharov).
He was a teacher at VGIK, led a script workshop. In 1987, together with screenwriters E. Volodarsky and V. Fried at the Mosfilm film studio, he created the Slovo studio, and was the president of this studio.
Valentin Chernykh's scripts are characterized by a heightened sense of modernity, close attention to the place of a person in the world. Among the best scenarios: “Earthly Love”, “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”, “Marry the Captain” .
Passed away on August 6, 2012.
