Born November 28, 1946 in Morristown, New Jersey. His father was a professional golfer. He began his film career working with Roger Corman. He edited many films, notably Howard's The Big Auto Theft, and then co-directed Hollywood Boulevard with Allan Arkush.
The first project fully entrusted to Dante's shoulders was the horror film Piranha from 1978. Then came the thriller Howl. The picture, which later became a cult, brought him an acquaintance and further collaboration with Steven Spielberg, for whom Dante directed the third part of the film "The Twilight Zone". Then came Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. In addition, Dante worked with Spielberg on the set of Inner Space. Outstanding special effects, as well as jokes, references to other films, have become the hallmark of Dante's films.
