He began his acting career at the age of 30. In 1993 he graduated from the State Theater School of Denmark (Statens Teaterskole), after which he played for a short time in various theaters. In 1994 he got his first film role, in the film "Night Watch". A major success in Thomsen's career was the main role in the film "Triumph" (1998), the role of Davydov in the nineteenth film of the official Bondiana "And the whole world is not enough" (1999), as well as the role in the film by Janos Szasz "Opium: Diary of a Madman" ( 2007), where the actor played a drug addicted doctor in a clinic for the mentally ill, who had a tragic affair with a patient.
