Ted Danson is an American actor who has become famous for his work in films such as Three Men and a Baby, Body Heat, Saving Private Ryan.

Edward Bridge Danson the third was born on December 29, 1947 in San Diego in the family of archaeologist Jess and museum director Edward Danson. Ted has English, Scottish, Irish and German roots. Danson grew up in Arizona and was a basketball star during his school years. Ted became a student at Stanford University, but later transferred to the acting department at Carnegie University in Pittsburgh.

On the big screen, Danson made his debut in 1979 in the crime drama Onion Field. She was followed by work in such films as Kaleidoscope of Horrors, A Little Treasure, Cousins, Made in America, How to Deal with a Father, Luna Pontiac, Dr. Mumford, Life After Death, The Tycoons, The Son of a Nobel Prize Winner, Open Road Back, Everybody Loves Whales. Ted first married actress Randy Danson in 1970, but the marriage fell apart five years later. Danson's second wife in 1977 was producer Cassandra Coates. During the birth of their first daughter, Kate, Cassandra suffered a stroke and Danson spent several years caring for her. The couple later had a second daughter, Alexis. Danson's affair with actress Whoopi Goldberg led to Ted and Cassandra's divorce in 1993. It was one of the most expensive divorces in Hollywood, Danson paid his ex-wife about thirty million dollars. On one of the shows dedicated to his good friend Whoopi Goldberg, Ted portrayed a black man. In his monologue, he made extensive use of offensive racial stereotypes, and also used the word "negro". This angered the press and the public, although Goldberg herself defended Danson, explaining that she helped write most of the material.

In 1995, Danson married for the third time to actress Mary Steenburgen. Ted follows a vegetarian diet for health reasons.

Danson's interest in environmental protection has continued for many years, with particular interest in the state of the oceans. In March 2011, Ted published his first book, The Ocean: Our Endangered Oceans, and What We Can Do to Save Them, which he co-wrote with journalist Michael De'Orso.
